The
four areas we examine in analyzing a tree drawing are
the groundline, the trunk, the top and finally the specific
features of the drawing.
From
the links below, a new window will open with the different
drawings. Please allow the images to fully load and then
roll your mouse over the images to find the interpretations
for each of the tree characteristics.
Groundline is
similiar to the baseline in handwriting. In some cases,
this is an actual line drawn under the tree and in others,
it is the manner in which the base of the tree is drawn.
Trunk is
the middle of the tree; the part between the groundline
and the top.
Top is
the point where the trunk stops. It is not necessarily
where branches start, since some people will draw a
branch coming out of the Trunk. More specificially,
it is the point where the drawing begins to expand.
This may be with leaves or simply with branches.
Features are
anything added to the tree: shading; birds, fruit,
holes, flowers, etc.
